    The Riftbreaker es un juego de construcción de bases y supervivencia que también incluye algunos elementos de rol y acción. Juega como la Capitana Ashley S. Nowak, la Riftbreaker, una científica/comando de élite que lleva un poderoso mecha-traje. Ella usó un portal de un solo sentido hacia el lejano planeta Galatea 37, en el cinturón Sycorax de la Vía Láctea, para establecer una base que permita el viaje entre este planeta y la Tierra, con el objetivo de que la expansión de la colonización pueda seguir progresando. El "Sr. Riggs", como Ashley llama a su  mecha-traje, tiene todo lo necesario para explorar el planeta, permitiéndole soportar las condiciones ambientales más duras, y tiene una gama completa de equipamientos para la construcción de la base, la extracción de recursos, la recolección de especímenes, y también para el combate. El traje es capaz de viajar a través de los Rifts que conectan el espacio a través de vastas distancias. 

    El juego utiliza una mecánica de sistema de defensa de bases, donde tienes que equilibrar la construcción de tus defensas para sobrevivir al ataque de oleadas de enemigos que se incrementan progresivamente, pero también mantener suficientes recursos disponibles para alcanzar tu objetivo final de construir el portal. No dejes de crear estaciones de investigación para utilizar la nueva tecnología y construir más objetos o explorar el planeta para encontrar más recursos. Con tu mecha-traje, a menudo te enfrentarás a batallas a gran escala, similares a los combates en Diablo, lo que hace que este juego sea increíblemente interesante y divertido de jugar.
